Proj. 05
Entitled, "Letter my Letter," this project has to do with calligraphy. This type of lettering appears as decorative writing that is handwritten. In order to start this assignment, the class was allowed to choose a letter from the alphabet at random. Once we were assigned our letters, we had to perfect our lettering skills.
Lettering "W"
Upon randomly selecting our letters, I selected "w." Initially, I assumed that this letter would be fairly easy to create based off of the demonstrations the class was given. Writing and practicing this letter was difficult, as I am left-handed and had to rotate my paper in order to write in the orientation I wanted. In order to complete this project, we had to write our letters seven times in a row with even spacing and consistent visuals.
Progress
These two images display the my development with lettering "w." Above this section, the image that is shown is from the first few pages I practiced on. Being able to connect segments of the letter was one aspect of calligraphy that was challenging to grasp. The "w" was not consistent at first and came out in different weights, spacing, and at some slants.
This final piece is the 7 times I was able to write out the letter "w" after developing a better grasp and lettering where the parts and segments of the letter were more consistent.
