Visual Communication Design Studio I

Visual Communication Design Studio I allows students to apply various principles of graphic design. More than just typography is recognized during this course! Imagery, color and experimental ways of communicating messages through designs are utilized in order for students to produce professional designs with problem solving in mind. Groups are also maintained throughout this course in order familiarize students with collaboration and new ideas.

A collaborative project based off of the 12 months of the year. Hands on activities and research with groups develops into a series of digital designs. This project was completed by myself and four other group members. Each of us were assigned specific months to work on individually with insight and opinions from our group members. The phases of this project include: Cut Paper Exercise and Research, In-Progress Imagery, Layouts, Early Digitizations, and In-Progress Imagery, Layouts, Early Digitizations

An independent project that each student developed based on short stories written by Italo Calvino. I read three of Calvino's stores entitled, "The Distance of the Moon", "A Sign in Space", and "The Light-Years". The goal of this project was to design one book cover for each short story. In total, each student will have three book covers that are intellectually thought out, made with organization and pleasing visuals, and designs that represent each of the stories accordingly.

The final project of the semester for this course- a flier based on how each student views VCD. This flier is portrayed towards anyone who is curious about design, unfamiliar with the subject, or underestimates the process of producing designs.
